Frequently Asked Questions

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a progressive healthcare model that eliminates barriers between patients and physicians. Health insurance doesn't always guarantee quality healthcare, and many have experienced limited access to doctors, brief appointments, rising costs, and insufficient follow-up for medical questions and concerns. Physician burnout is also at an all-time high. Medicine should focus on helping individuals maintain meaningful, healthy lives within a sustainable system. DPC fosters a more just and equitable environment for both physicians and patients.

How does DPC provide value if I have insurance?

When patients spend more time with their doctors, they share crucial information about medical history, daily habits, desired outcomes, and other factors affecting health and wellbeing. This additional time allows doctors to listen, ask insightful questions, counsel on lifestyle improvements, discuss disease progression, and inform patients about medication effects and side effects.

Value your time and treat it as a valuable commodity. Your visit will begin promptly, focusing on clinical care rather than coding documentation. Can't make it to the clinic? No problem – reach out via phone, text, or email.

Your finances matter, and you may be paying more for health insurance without seeing a corresponding increase in care quality. Between copays, inflated costs for labs, imaging, and procedures, as well as coinsurance costs and time, you might be spending more at a traditional insurance-based practice than with Direct Primary Care.

Health insurance doesn't always guarantee healthcare. DPC addresses cost, convenience, and unmet expectations where traditional care falls short, aiming to offer value for patients.

What is I am uninsured/have catastrophic coverage only?

I recommend high deductible insurance coverage or a healthcare sharing program for catastrophic issues, but I'm happy to care for you regardless of coverage. Traditional insurance practices often burden the uninsured with high out-of-pocket costs. If you opt against traditional insurance, healthcare sharing programs provide a financially viable alternative. Members contribute monthly to a pooled fund, which covers large expenses after a certain threshold. Many organizations have unique membership rules, so research online to find one that suits your needs.

I have Medicare, how can DPC help me?

For Medicare patients, consider your doctor visits. Do you feel your doctor has enough time to address your concerns and properly monitor issues like medication safety and multiple chronic disease management? Many physicians face limited time, increasing administrative tasks, and a growing number of patients, making comprehensive care challenging. Some doctors are also opting out of Medicare due to lower reimbursements, and insurance companies may request changes in doctors due to network issues. As medical concerns grow more complex with age, having a physician who can devote time to answering questions and ensuring proper medical management becomes increasingly important.

Are you available after-hours?

Yes! With our secure messaging app or office line, you can reach me whenever you need urgent assistance.

Is DPC health insurance?

It's crucial to differentiate between primary care needs and medical insurance/coverage. DPC is not health insurance. We care for patients with or without insurance, but we do recommend some form of coverage for protection. By joining North Texas DPC's membership program and signing the membership agreement, you acknowledge that the medical service agreement for DPC does not constitute health insurance.

How do I cancel services?

30-day notice is required as per our membership agreement.
